What started off as a Quick-Start for Steve Madden's IT to demonstrate SharePoint grew into something a little more custom. This was built in a sandbox environment as a playground and demonstration device to the business and includes ties into backend line-of-business databases for reporting and KPIs. There is even a really cool Google Map of their retail stores which give a rich experience while upper management keeps their finger on the pulse of the national store chain. Clicking on any store to the right opens a traditional Google Map balloon with some real-time store data embedded. Check out the previews below for more. Recently, I had a chance to work with Scot Hillier on one of the smoothest migration projects from SharePoint 2003 to MOSS 2007 ever. My part of coarse was the user experience as seen above. Check out the link to the full view below. Full views: SharePoint Home Page |
Every now and then I have a WSS 3.0 branding project land in my lap, and the only approach really is to go with creating a custom SharePoint theme. This was one I did for Dun & Bradstreet leveraging existing styles from their web site and current previous intranet. Full views: SharePoint Home Page |
New York University School of Law A typical Quick-Start to allow University faculty, administration, and staff to play in a sandbox, this build had a good amount of content management leveraged. The goal was simple: match the look and feel of their public facing web site in MOSS 2007, provide approval workflows for content, and show off some of what you get with SharePoint out of the box. Mission accomplished. Full views: SharePoint Web Content Management Site | SharePoint Intranet Site |

This is probably as customized as it gets. The entire user experience has been manipulated in such a way that anyone can easily create and manage content within the Girl Scouts new extranet. From the home page, to various site templates, to library views and functionality, to Administration, to My Sites, there is not a single area of functionality that is left untouched. There are even a slew of wizards that guide users towards meeting there needs for common SharePoint administrative tasks like creating sites. Check out some of the links below to get a taste of what can be done with some brilliant SharePoint gurus. This project was a little more involved than your average SharePoint branding project. This was probably one of the most complicated SharePoint branding projects to date regarding implementation because of the rounded corners. The banner is also a 3-part liquid design. Both were mainly implemented with a theme, but some custom layout and master page work were in order for their custom search controls and Office Clocks. More about that coming soon. These two designs were created for Buchanan Street Partners (the one on the left was the final design). The branding for this intranet was completely pulled off using a theme which was also applied to all My Sites. A Feature was created which applied the theme to all sites, all My Sites, and would apply the theme to all new My Sites going forward. Colgate Palmolive Websphere Law Portal I finally got my first taste of creating a theme and branding Websphere Portal for the Office of the General Counsel at Colgate Palmolive. When you get down to it, it's similar to MOSS. |
