Case Study

This project was a little more involved than your average SharePoint branding project. This is the start of a migration from their current intranet residing on a Lotus Notes/Domino platform to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Web Content and Document Management. The pilot group chosen was their Canadian operations, and because of legal compliance issues surrounding published content needing to be available in both French and English languages in the workplace, language variations needed to be turned on and leveraged. All solutions, including custom web parts, controls, page layouts, and even the master page was built variation-aware. Simply put, everything was built to be dynamic and translate various components to the correct language depending on the site's language label. This variation aware solution included a custom stock feed web part that would change labels and render the correct date and time formats, alter global elements on the master page like the search label, translate footer information like the copyright notice, alter link labels, and change web part titles. Pretty cool stuff. Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to know more about how implementing these types of solutions in your environment. You can reach me via email, text, or call (631) 404-2929.
